Rose Brig Pocket
Dr Sir I am so unwell Lhal I cannot visit you Lhrough the inclemency of the wealher; I am very much troubled on account of the Powder now on board; we have often vessel on each side of us upon which conslanl fires are kept our halchcs are necessarily kept open for receivi11g and discharging while Lhe sparks of fire are flying in every direction over them We have also a number of Guns & Bayonets with steel points which I consider unsafe to be kept on board wilh Powder and such a valuable Cargo especially at a time-when there is so much Lighlning. If fire should be communicated to the Powder elsewhere there would be no other loss suslained; here we should loose the Brig & Cargo (which is valuable) & the lives of the Persons on board. Yours respectfully W. Lawrence
