I would most respectfully beg leave to inform you that the Newport (Vrg) Rifle Company has heen, for some time, and is now (from what course you can judge as well as T,) going Lo lhc Devil-1 have, with parl of the company been here but six days- (woul<l Lo God I had not come, 1 can enforce no discipline, uo order-Capt. Wood (I may say) never visits the Camp-the men swear he is-no matter-they will obey no command emanating from him; and, in fact they have no disposition some of them lo obey any order- There are, however, some redeeming members yel who are anxious to go with the Army (but not under Capt Wood) if any could have the opportunity-which opportunily is withheld- The men who would be of any service lo Texas (now in our company) only awail your permission to join you and your order to do so- We do nol Sir, wish lo do wrong, although il may to you (which God forbid), look like mutiny-but it is not-we came to battle for the liberties of Texas ~s gentlemen-thinking: all Such- Capl. Wood has been repeatedly requested lo withdraw from the company-and refused so Lo do-is nol lhis enough for you, without more.
