My dear Genl.

I have received several letters from my friends in N. York of. late, containing information more or less important, in regard to our Country, France, Mexico, & England, But presuming- you are advised of everything going on abroad that is -worth noticing, I have not thought it worth while to trouble you with any news I may have heard of late. However, noth1ng w[as] said at Houston while I was there, about a French agent having been sent here incog. for certain purposes! I thought I would just mention that I have heard so, and give you an extract from a letter just received, dated 21st Deer.: "I have before spoken of a French agent being on his way to Texas, by order of the French government. Pontois the French minister here, was directed to send down one of his secretaries, or perhaps this young man. His name is Saligny-a very clever,
