DEAR Srn I have been unfortunately confined with sickness since my arrival at this place, but hope I &:iall be able to proceed to business in two or three days, I hope my disease is purty well remoYed I haYe still a small touch of the Jaundice, for which I am taking medicine shall start out a l\fonclay morning, lrnowing the necessity of having the work completed. I shall make every exertion to complete the work from this to the fort as soon as possible, I shall spare no pains to execute my work to your satisfaction I will let you know at what time I shall get to the fort as soon as I can ascertain-

Dn Sm Enclosed I send you forms 1 in addition to those contained in the general instructions- The instructions and regulations for the Alcaldes :i were drawn up by me hastily and while I was subject to continual interruptions and without the aid of any book of forms or precedents, as yon must have perceived when here, they may therefore contain many errors and omissions; experience will however point them out, and I wish you to note anything you may find in them amiss, in order that the proper corrections may be made I have no wish nor intere13t in anything of this kind of a public nature done by me, but to promote the general prosperity and hap- piness of us all, and shall therefore at all times pay respect to the opinion and wishes of a Majority of the Settlers when I can ascer- tain it and conform myself thereto So far as my powers and in- structions from the Govt will permit- JanY 25-1824- S.
