I embrace the present conveyance of troubling you with a few en- quiries relative to· your part o:f the Country-I wish to know if could do anything to advantage there with a stock of 2000$ to 3000$ worth o:f goods. \Vhat kind o:f merchnndise will suit the mnrket- who would be the principle purchasers-Emigrants Spaniards or Indians-and whnt I can get in exchange-cash or mules--\Vhut part of the Country would be best to locate myself in-\V"hether your settlement St. Antonio or some other village-Your answer to the above or such information as you may think necessary or use- ful will confer a particular favr-I leave this city in about two months-and should anything offer in your part of the Country l have no doubt some of my friends will advance me an outfit-By late accts from Arkansas I understand our friend James Hamilton is appointed sherriff-H. Soule has moved to Cuba-I have quit that country all together-Please inform me the distunce from yr place to St Antonio-the convenience and expense of traveling to the in- terior etc-and what a person can do there without goods or capi- tal-I have a strong disposition to visit you at all events but will wait yr address, in haste Yr friend Su1L RrcKER Jr. Direct to care of Townsley & Bouny N. 0.

DEAR Sm Having some idea of coming to your Country and perhaps others from this place might, I ask for information on the probable pros- J)ects for myself, and others Having been employed as a deputy sui·veyor under ihe U. States Government some years since, I wish to be informed if a well qualified surveyor would meet with en- couragement to make it an object- I having acquired my mathe- matical knowledge under the tuition of ,Josiah Meigs, commissioner of the general land office at ·washington while he was professor in Yale College N. H. and I have letters of recommendation from James Mnnstield Edward Tiffin, vVilliam Rector all of whom have been extensively imployed as surveyor Generals under our government I
