Jackson [Missouri] 25th Decr-1821 Sir, Having been introduced .to you at your Fathers (Potosi) and formed a short but agreeable acquaintance and having some knowl- edge of your political character which stands fair in our State, I am induced to Introduce to your notice my friend Capt. Saml. Dixon the bearer of this letter.- I believe Sir, you will find him as I have done a gentleman of good character of a handsome education Industrious, firm to his purposes confidential to his friends, he understands surveying and navigation theoretically and practically, acquainted with mankind having trav- l'lled much both by sea and land it is the opinion of myself and his friends in this quarter, that he deserves to be patronized and as such I cordially recommend him to your friendship- ZENAS PRIEST [Addressed]: Stephen F. DEAR Sm A number of the Citizens of this County, through me, have pre- sumed to address a letter to you, understanding that you are at Potosi; the object of which is to request you to inform us of the certainty of the report concerning a territory in the Province of Texas, which territory according to an extract of a letter published in the newspaper said to have been from yourself, you have the dis- posal of. '\Ve wish, if you will be so good as to condescend to write us, to know l"t. If that letter was from yourself: and if so how many families are wanting; If the time for those families to come is limited; if any have come; what probability of getting supplies for family until it could be raised; how far from St. Lonis; the best route by Land; which the preferable way to come by Land or "'ater; and if Liberty of Conscience [is] allowed of- ,ve would first observe that the farpilies who _now trouble you, are from a southern climate S. C. and are all farmers; and are deter- mined for a warmer Climate. Your compliance will therefore confer the grentest favor - Ploose write as soon as possible after the receipt of this - und direct your letter to the undersigned who is Post ~foster
