THE AUSTIN PAPERS. 1531 mandant, Manchola, I read the letter to him, who being satisfied I again offered the letter to his charge which he accepted for trans- portation to the governor.-In consequence of the Doctors name not being noticed in the said communication, he threatened me and the colony with eternal vengeance. The reason why I did not before make known to the Governor these circumstances, was, that I apprehended it would be attributed to maliciousness, a spirit of resentment, or a natural excitement which sometimes exists in the peculiar situation in which I have been placed, and restrained as it were by an a[r]med force. Col. S. F. Austin. In compliance with your request by the Mexican woman, I have seen Mcfarland, who uterly refuses to make any provision for the support of her, giving for reason, that there is not a sufficient quan- tity of property to satisfy John Mcfarland debts, and that he is not willing to give her support out of his own estate. He also stated that he would see you in a few days to know what arrange- ment could be made. The Mexican woman expresses a desire to lb•e with me, to which I have given her my consent upon this condition, that she is provided for with provisions, or an assurance for the payment of her board SAMUEL C. li.Anor [Rubric]
