DEAR Srn I have understood that you own one fourth of a league of land, situated near Eagle lake, which land was formerly deeded to the late Mr. McClain; if you nre disposed to sell said land I would be very glad to buy it, If you will sell it I could wish to know if you would take cotton or tobacco, or any other kind of trade I could pay you, or what price you would ask for it,-I have never yet got any land as a settler; I should be glad to get the land itlotted to me by the Govt. on the rio Bacca if it may be con~enient for me so to have it.-I have been several times to see you about getting land, but have always found you from home .• • • ,vu1 you be so good as to let me know what I may depend on cou- cerning what I have written to you Nrnnous vVH1TEHEAD Col. DEAR Sm I have just learnt (Indirectly) that you have old Roe 1 in custody and that you inte[n]ded keeping him so until you should hear my opinion as to what tribe of Indians committed the hostilities on the Guadaloupe etc. I have to presume that you ear this have been satisfactorily in- formed by Mr. "Wightman on the subject-I however will state that there is not a doubt of its haveing been the Wakows that attacked my house ·and killd Whightman. There is some doubt as to the tribe that that party belonged to that at- tacked Dirben, in as much as they had been encamped several Day.;; near the ·place where they shot at Derbin and tho. they were not trailed from the place, after that they had taken the Horses-yet
