I rec 4 your letter by the indian and nm much, pleased with your account of th~ cormtry and progress in surveying- It will be impossible for me to visit there for I shall leave here for St Antonio in a few days- you will therefore exercise your own judgement in laying off that country so that there be no vacancies left and you will regulate the shape of the tracts as situations and circumstances may require and nlso intermix quarters where necessary to fill vacancies and above- nil make all the tra.cts you can, and economise the water f'ronts as much as possible so as to make as many tracts as possible I must rely on yo·ur judgement and give you discretionary powers in this matter which I do without hesitation and with the most entire confidence I wish you to select two leagues there for me as a part of my premium land I have given your letter to 1\1:r. Williams to make the entries yon mention- Keep hnrmony with the Beeclies and enjoin it on the Settlers to do the same and to treat them well and try and persuade them to settle on the Ea.gt side of the San Jacinto May 17. 1830 E. E. decirme " qe estos horirados colonos continuaran recibiendo durante la administracion de V. E. las mismas pruebas de afecto y consideracion con qe. des<;}e el afio 22 manifesto los deseos de V. E. pn nuestra feliciclad y progresos, empenando en nucstro favor el influjo qe. daban los destinos publicos qe. ha servido V. E. desde aquella fecha " y por fin me encargue V. E. hacer en- tender a estos habitantes las protestas de V. E. en su favor- tengo la honra de presentar a V. E. mis gracins para esta mnni- festacion de amistad y proteccion hacia estos habitantes, lo qe. me fue sumamente agradable en las circunstancias actuales y criticns en qe. nos hallamos a causa del decreto clel congreso nucionnl de 6 avril, cuyo objeto pnrece ser el de destruir de un golpe la felicidnd y pros- peridad de esta colonia qe.
