In consideration of the friendship, I have for S. l\{ '\V'illiams, and nlso ns a compensation for. the general services h~ has rendered the inhabitants of this Colony_.for many years while secretary and for which he has not received a full compensation in pro1:>01:tion to his merits. I have ag~·eed to give to said S. :fyI. vVilliams the half of the premium land which may be coming to me as Empresario in the Colony of one hundred families which I Contracted with Govt. in eighteen l:rnndred and twenty seven on the East side of Colorado above the San Antonio r·oacl, but _the said William~ is to attend to all the business and do all the writing and I reserve the right of lo- cating land in that Colony under ~itles which I may purchase.from Mexicans or others who have any right .to acquire lands ther.e- I give this as a memorandi..1m of th~ ~derst1:rnding on ~l~is subject for said v\Tilliams sE=curity in case. of my death.- San Felipe de Austin 4 day of April i830. • STEPHEN F AusTIN .[Rubric] A true Copy.
