DEAR Sm The moment I learned that your safety was threatened by the Government of Mexico, I endeavored to procure the interference of our Government in your behalf. You will see by the inclosed note from the Secretary of State and the brief indorsement by my brother 1 Forsyth that such interference was made.

1 Meigs was Forsyth's brother--in-law. He connected with Austin through his wife, tbe daughter of Austin's Uncle Stephen.
